Toastmasters in Singapore
Especially for the Residents in the West
Then we welcome you to visit Jurong Green English Toastmasters Club.
Why Jurong Green English Toastmasters Club?
Imagine standing on a stage and confidently giving a well-crafted and well-prepared speech.
You rouse your audience's emotions and they give you a standing ovation, clapping and cheering your name.
You've shared your message and made an impact on someone's life.
That is our goal at Jurong Green English Toastmasters Club: to prepare you for the real stage.
We provide a safe and non-judgemental environment in the West and a platform for you to practice your speaking skills.
We believe everyone has a story to tell and a message to share.
One day, you will be called to share that message - either at a company event or a conference - and you would kick yourself for not joining us and preparing yourself for that day.
You probably already know what is a Toastmasters club. Basically, we are an internationally-recognized organization that focuses on developing public speaking and leadership skills. Learn more here.
Our members come from all walks of life and everyone has a different reason for joining.
Some just want to boost their confidence.
Some people like to network and meet new friends.
Most would like to brush up on their presentation skills and ace that important presentation at work and get that promotion.
No matter what your reason is for joining, one thing is for certain: you will have a warm family welcoming you with open arms.
We meet on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month, 7:15pm at Jurong Green CC, Room #03-08.

Let me share with you why Jurong Green is a great choice for you.
We meet TWICE a month.
Jurong Green English Toastmasters club is the only English Toastmasters club in the west that meets TWICE a month.
That means:
You have TWICE the opportunities to practice your speaking skills and leadership skills.
Public speaking is a skill, and there is no skill that you can master just by doing once a month - and that’s what many clubs do.
Conquering online meetings is more important than ever!
Your work and school presentations are now all held online. You may even need to present to international colleagues more frequently. Your facial expressions are amplified online, and if you don't know how to engage your audience online, people may just turn off their cameras or play with their phones.
But guess what doesn't change? The structure of a great presentation or a great story.
That is why Toastmasters online meetings are more relevant than ever.
Jurong Green English Toastmasters club has a FAMILY friendly atmosphere.
Our members and guests regularly bring their kids along. We understand that learning is important, but family is more important. At JGE, you don’t have to choose between the two.
We pride ourselves as your Second Home in the West.
We have FUN.
We celebrate festive occasions together. National Day, Halloween, Christmas, Chinese New Year…
We have themed meetings to enliven the vibe and have fun together. We wear costumes and eat cakes together.
We understand that you have a long day at work and the last thing you need is another cold, boring corporate-like environment. We tend to switch things up.
We make LEARNING our priority.
We regularly invite distinguished speakers to conduct workshops.
From Speech-crafting to Evaluation workshops, we believe learning is a life-long endeavor and we aim to equip you with these practical skills.
We also share and invite each other to the many speaking workshops held around Singapore.
Better Speaker
Better Leader
Better Thinker
Here are some SKILLS you can aquire:
ENVIRONMENT that raises you up
Even though our club is pretty young and our members are pretty new, every single one is ambitious and hungry to learn.
Our members performed extraordinarily well in the recent speech contest that was organized by 4 clubs in the west.
Most of our members were first-time contestants and it was because of the club learning environment that helped them excelled in the speech contests.
Surround yourself with like-minded people to help yourself grow!
Prepare for the REAL stage
We have a meeting layout that helps prepare you for the real stage.
You face the audience, practice stage presence and get to move around to improve your audience engagement.
Many clubs in Singapore meet in a cold, stuffy conference room where you’re forced to stand behind a lectern. This severly limits your stage control and audience engagement. Not at our meetings.
Our isn't a real elevated stage, so it's not THAT scary. You'll want to practice in a safe and non-judgemental environment.
We have great connections with the other clubs in the West and beyond.
Our members regularly visit Gek Poh Ville Toastmasters, Yuhua CC Toastmasters, The Frontier Toastmasters and Jurong Town Toastmasters.
We also have great relations with NTU Toastmasters, West Coast Toastmasters, Bukit Batok Toastmasters, Chua Chu Kang Toastmasters, Clementi Toastmasters and many more.
If you ever feel like visiting other clubs in the west of Singapore, feel free to join any of us as we go Toastmasters ‘clubbing’. We will introduce you to these clubs and help find you speaking slots.
Ever wondered what a Toastmasters meeting is like in Singapore?
Welcoming
The moment you step into our room, you’ll be greeted by the smiling faces of our friendly members.
Our Sergeant-at-Arms will break the ice and facilitate the introduction between members and guests.
Then, our Toastmasters of the Day will bring us through the meeting agenda and explain any unfamiliar procedures to our guests.
The Club President (or acting president) will give an opening address and hopefully you’ll learn something right from the start.
Practice
Then our members and visiting Toastmasters from other clubs in Singapore will deliver their prepared speeches. This is why you join, right? To practice by doing.
You cannot learn swimming by looking at others swim. Similarly, you cannot improve public speaking by watching others speak. Our members have priority for speaking slots.
We’ll have a short refreshment break where you’ll mingle with our members and other guests (and to fill those empty stomachs). This is the chance to ask about their experiences and clarify any doubts you may have.
When we resume the meeting, this is where the learning happens.
Learning
Our Project Evaluators will share their feedback of the speakers. The evaluators will let you know where you did well and how you can improve your speech. Don’t worry, we try to be as motivating and encouraging as possible.
This is how we learn – from each other. At our club, we try to invite as many external evaluators from other Toastmasters clubs as possible. This way, we get to learn from different perspectives.
And finally, we have the Table Topics session.
This is where YOU get to try out impromptu speaking.
Since you’ve already made time to come, why not try it out?
Our Table Topics Master will ask you a question, and you have 1 to 2 minutes to answer it.
It is nerve-wrecking, but exhilarating as well.
Sometimes, if we have time, we will invite a Language Evaluator to share with us his observations on the uses of English Language in the meeting. If you want to improve your spoken English, this is the one to pay attention for.
Finally, we wrap up the meeting by acknowledging the speakers and participants.
If you’re lucky, you may receive an award from us
And that’s pretty much it!
This is how most Toastmasters clubs in Singapore hold their meeting. There may be some variations here and there but the main parts of a meeting are always the prepared speeches, the evaluations of said speeches and the impromptu speaking session.
So, what are you waiting for? Join us for a family-friendly, value-for-money, fun and supportive learning environment!
We meet on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month, 7:15pm at Jurong Green CC, Room #03-08.
If this sounds like what you’re looking for, send our Vice President of Membership Chor Wui a text at +65 9877 8277.
Do note: All Toastmasters meeting in Singapore are held online via Zoom until further notice.
We understand that you might have seen some Toastmasters clubs in Singapore charging a guest fee just for sitting in.
Don't worry. It is 100% free to visit us as a guest, to see whether we are a good fit for you and even to try out the Table Topics.
P.S You don't have to be a resident in the west to join us. We have members staying in Ang Mo Kio and Toa Payoh.
